Water Ways

With water at its theme, a photographer can have a lot of choices when capturing images with their cameras.

Yet members of the Photographic Arts Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania are up to the task.

Currently at Glass Growers Gallery, over 30 images from the organization are featured within the show, “On the Waterfront.”

What do people think when they envision water?  An ocean, river, stream or bay?  How about something historical?

Rebecca Samler’s contributions to the exhibit, “Flagship Niagara,” captures the nautical pride of Erie-area citizens as the ship sails upon the waters.        “Winter Layup” by John Misterovich is an entrancing black and white composition of two massive, docked workhorse ships side by side, waiting out the cold months underneath gloomy gray skies.

        An opposing image?

How about “Tethered in Tranquility?”  A calming color photo by Patti Larson, with a golden sun shining upon the waters and smaller, docked leisure boats at rest.

Alex Cohen’s “Bicentennial Evening”  (see above)  captures the lit Bicentennial Tower at Lake Erie’s edge and a delightful sunset behind it.

In the mood for something abstract? Then check out “Water Reflections” by Christine French, a wavy, trippy, blue-and-white artwork that can easily mesmerize visitors.

PASNWPA’s show “On the Waterfront” offers a worthwhile variety of water-related images. Almost anything a visitor could hope for.

Yet with the exhibit’s title, I couldn’t help but hope for an artwork somehow featuring a young, hunky Marlon Brando.

                    Am I right, ladies?
