Peeved

(A Musical about Life’s Little Annoyances)

A Theater Review

Mountains of junk email to wade through, telemarketers, attempting to communicate with robotic customer service, blonde jokes (well, at least it bothers blondes), these are the little things in our lives that two Erieites focus upon in their musical, Peeved.

Just ending its run at the Performing Artists Collective Alliance with music by Michael Malthaner and book and lyrics by Charles Corritore (who also directed the show), a quartet of performers let us know that we’re not alone in our minute frustrations regarding 21st century American life.

Featuring approximately 30 snippets within this two-act, two-hour show, performer Leah Johnson gets her sly revenge on two male employees in Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow; Rich Tryzbiak does a slow burn that we can all relate to before he eventually goes ballistic when an elderly lady is checking out in front of him and a new employee is cashing her out in The Express Lane.

Meanwhile, Jean Malthaner tugs at our heart with her song about being a weed in a garden of roses after a miscommunication with a man on a bus.
