Le Gourmand couldn’t have picked a better day and time to dine at Sunset Grill in Edinboro. Balmy weather, blue-ish skies, and not too crowded, so we could have our choice of seating. Lakefront seating, if we wanted, but why bother when it seemed that every table at the place had a great view of people out on the lake? Fishermen, weekend boaters, jet skiiers even stand-up paddle boarders were in attendance on Edinboro Lake the weekend we visited.

Dining al fresco, how European! While we awaited our meals, my dining companion and I both imbibed a bottle of Purple Haze Raspberry Lager, which actually had a noticeable raspberry flavor and had a nice kick to it.

For starters we ordered the Beach Bread and Chinese Salad. The bread, though it contained garlic, wasn’t the crunchy-munchy appetizer I was expecting; rather, topped with the melted feta and mozzarella cheeses and a side of tangy marinara, the warm toasted bread served as an appropriate complement for the chilled Chinese Salad.

Ever heard of a two-fisted drinker? Well, Le Gourmand is a two-fisted eater, wolfing down the warm Beach Bread in one hand while chomping on the cool Chinese Salad that contained chow mein noodles, mixed greens and slightly tart mandarin oranges to counter the sweet, but sparse sesame ginger dressing that comes with it.

Jake’s Mistake Panini was hardly an error. A warm grilled chicken breast and bacon topped with sweet peppers, onions sandwiched between sourdough bread would be hard to beat, however, the Sriracha Chicken tacos, took the cake, so to speak.

Soft mini taco shells chockfull pico de gallo salsa, jalapeno peppers and shredded cheese with warm chunks of chicken so bountiful they fall open. The trick to the tacos comes when you see a red sauce and you’re expecting, of course, salsa, but–wrong!–it’s Thai sriracha sauce, transforming an ordinary
Mexican entree into a surprising palette pleaser. As if that wasn’t enough, the tacos came with a side of tortilla chips and a side of medium salsa.

Sun, sea & sriracha sauce! Hard to beat for a lazy afternoon!

Le Gourmand wishes you good eating!
