Uncle Gary’s Barbecue
Uncle Gary’s Barbecue 10212 John Williams Ave., Albion. I’m curious to see how this place will do”especially since Skinny Nate’s BBQ at the same location, offering the same cuisine, closed its doors after one short season last year.
I recently ate at Gary’s and tried the BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, which was very good. Spicy hot sauce on chopped chicken that goes down easy on a warm bun. That’s the good news. The bad news? The sides that came with it were really disappointing, a skinny limp pickle slice and baggie of broken potato chips”the kind you find at the bottom of the bag. The coleslaw was good but miniscule: maybe three tablespoons in a plastic deli cup. Here’s the kicker: I was hungry so I ordered a side of corn on the cob before checking the price on takeout menu. Big mistake! Got charged $4.00 for half a piece of corn! With no butter! Meanwhile, the local grocery sells corn on the cob for .50 cents apiece.
Also, the hours for this drive-in state they’re closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Huh? You choose to shutter your summer business on probably what would be the busiest days of the week? Yeah, good luck with that…
Will I be back? Maybe. Tony B. does love ⤠his BBQ.
But I won’t be ordering sides.
